Politics and Employment Law

06.24.20

June 24, 2020

With COVID-19 transforming the workplace, protests changing the world, and a presidential election coming – our firm created a presentation focusing on the intersection of politics and workplace rights.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Do employees have a First Amendment right to talk about politics at work?
  • Can companies discipline employees for political activities at or outside of work?
  • Can companies maintain policies aimed at what employees wear, do, or post on social media related to political activity?
  • Can or must employers allow employees to use company property or systems to engage in political activities?
  • Can companies sponsor political fundraisers, meet-the-candidate events, or advocacy-related activities, on a mandatory or voluntary basis?
  • What time off must employers provide to employees to engage in political activity?
