Tyler Maulsby
Tyler Maulsby is Deputy Managing Partner of the firm and a partner in the Litigation Group.
He is one of the country’s leading lawyers in the area of legal ethics and professional responsibility. Mr. Maulsby co-chairs the New York City Bar Association’s Subcommittee on Artificial Intelligence and Legal Ethics, which is part of the Presidential Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies. He is the past president of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and the past chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Ethics.
Mr. Maulsby represents law firms and individual lawyers in a wide range of legal ethics and professional responsibility matters, including legal malpractice litigation, legal fee disputes, partnership breakups, attorney discipline and admission matters, attorney departures and lateral hires, and law firm partnership agreements. He also provides ethics opinions and advice to lawyers and law firms and serves as an expert witness in attorney ethics and professional responsibility matters.
Mr. Maulsby also has an active commercial litigation practice, representing clients in state and federal courts and in arbitrations in connection with business breakups and partnership and other commercial disputes.
As a member of the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Group, Mr. Maulsby also represents companies in high-stakes regulatory investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the New York Attorney General, and other federal, state, and local agencies. He also defends individuals in connection with criminal actions.
Mr. Maulsby is a frequent speaker on attorney ethics issues. Recent presentations have included, “Ethics: Anatomy of an Internal Investigation,” “Ethics for IP Lawyers: What’s New and What’s on the Horizon,” and “The Constitutional and Ethical Implications of Government Surveillance.” He has spoken at events sponsored by the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar, the California Lawyers Association, the New York Women’s Bar Association, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the Media Law Resource Center, the Practicing Law Institute, and others.
Mr. Maulsby is often quoted by the media as well, including in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg Law, The American Lawyer, The New York Law Journal, Law360, Law.com, Business Insider, and others.
Mr. Maulsby serves as an adjunct professor at NYU School of Law where he teaches Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
He is also a member of the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility and the ABA Standing Committee on Public Protection in the Provision of Legal Services.
Mr. Maulsby is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Arizona, as well as in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Before joining Frankfurt Kurnit, Mr. Maulsby was a criminal defense attorney with The Bronx Defenders, a public defense office in New York City.
